Subject: 20773/WorldWelcomeTask/OlympicGames Date: Thu, 4 May 1989 09:49:48 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 20773 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE WORK OF THE WORLD WELCOME TASK FORCE. ___________________________ WHEREAS, the 1996 Summer Olympics Games will be hosted by the City of Atlanta, one hundred and twenty miles to the south of Chattanooga and Hamilton County; and WHEREAS, said Olympics Games are projected to attract more attention and draw more spectators - domestic and international - than any like event in history; and WHEREAS, the Olympic white water events will be conducted on the Ocoee River, less than an hour away from Chattanooga and Hamilton County; and WHEREAS, Chattanooga has already established a reputation for "southern hospitality" and outstanding leisure travel attractions and amenities that can only be enhanced by the activities surrounding the Olympic Games; and WHEREAS, a cross section of the community's public and private groups known as the World Welcome Task Force has worked together to create a program outlining the steps this community should take to better prepare ourselves for the arrival of international and domestic travelers in the Summer of 1996; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That we endorse and support the efforts of 0C the community's World Welcome Task Force to make Chattanooga an appealing and accommodating destination for international travelers before, during and after the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
